Location, location, location – you’ve certainly heard this term applied to real estate purchasing, but it is equally as important when deciding on where to place a wind chime. Sounds silly since you should be able to just outside and hang it up wherever you want. While that is generally the rule, the exception is to carefully consider the location before stabbing a nail into a tree or on the side of your home. Here are some factors to consider when determining a location to place a wind chime:

1. Noise – if you live near a noisy area, place one or more wind chime sets strategically by the loudest point. Use higher pitched (smaller) sets to help muffle the street noise coming into your yard;

2. Garden – create a whimsical music garden by placing several wind chimes at various heights in one particular area.

3. Under the eve’s of your house – placing them near doors and windows can create a pleasant melody for visitors and while relaxing on the patio.

4. Feng Shui – to enhance the chi of your home, place wind chimes in areas that represent wealth, health, and well-being. Make sure your chimes have only 5 tubes representing the 5 elements of the earth and that you do not hang them where you eat, sleep or work.

The purpose of wind chimes is to hear the melodic tones created by the wind or breeze. If you place your chimes where there is no wind, they will never ring. Placing them outside of earshot also defeats the use of wind chimes. You want to select a location that you can easily access, enjoy the breeze and the wind chime tones. If you have a large yard, you may want to place several sets of wind chimes throughout the entire area thus creating an entire symphonic aura encircling your home.

Whatever your desires are for wanting wind chimes, remember that location placement is as important as choosing the chimes themselves. You want to purchase wind chimes whose melodies strike a feeling inside you thus you will want to place them where you can easily and readily hear them. Wind chimes are a wonderful addition to any yard and help enhance a calming effect that can be enjoyed by anyone who listens. Make the most of your wind chimes by choosing ideal locations that allow everyone to hear their lively and haunting sounds.
